1923 Jan. 17th Wednesday
A very warm day and dusty looking until wind came up at noon and evening so warm. Will went to Ableidinger and helped butcher a hog and came back at 3 p.m. and unloaded the cobs I gathered, then we went over river and got water I pumped and a couple sacks & tub [of] cobs. Somebody drove in yard in auto and I started home from bridge but he went on up track.
1933 Jan. 17th Tuesday
Partly cloudy, cold and raw wind from N.W. when there was any. Will chored and then Roy, Mr. Lattimore and Step-son Merlin Allen and Ben Clausen came and Roy got Mrs. & Clyde and they staid here while men went to a sale 2 mi. north of Winner and home in eve. Earl Harris was here in a.m. Otto Rothley and Jerry Karnes came and Wm helped them get 149 1/2 lbs or 12 turkey hens and he also did the chores in the eve so Will took Mr. Lattimore, Merlin and Ben across the river and Hutchins Family up home before supper. John Sundquist got our mail in p.m. so we had plenty to read but I am always in all so go to bed as soon as supper is over.
1943 Jan. 17th Sunday
Was 16 below this morning but crept to 10 below in the day so was plenty cold, cloudy and some frost or snow fell in forenoon but sun shone in afternoon. Elsie dusted our rooms and front room. I made noodles and put potatoes on to cook also boiled chicken. Elsie and I put fruit cocktail in Jello. I fixed last and it set good in night so when we served it at lunch we put bananas on the top then whipped cream, was good. I filled 3 cocoanut-cream pies and Elsie meringued them. Will ground beef and pork and I made a meat loaf. Will got coal and water so then He put on clean clothes. I covered arms of Will’s Big Chair with clean upholstery. Will tried our car, no start, so Wm Van Epps and Henry got a team and pulled Van Epps until it started then gave cattle hay and cake at north shed and went to Chaunceys Sr. to get cream, came via Wm Abbott’s to tell them to bring teaspoons. Those here for 25th Wedding Anniversary party [were] Mr. & Mrs. Wm Abbott, Delores, Billie and Cora Ann, Mr. & Mrs. Claude Van Epps, Mr. & Mrs. Wm Chauncey Sr., Elmer, Mr. & Mrs. Wm Chauncey Jr., Mr. & Mrs. Wallace Gran, Betty and Leonard, so we all played cards, young folks chinese checkers, Delores brought them.
1953 Jan. 17th Saturday
Bright nice day. It was to-day that Dan and Will did the last half of the above also my work. Yesterday Dan took his Pick-Up to have Shift fixed, but no do and I did the above work and we had fish for dinner this noon. Stock for Supper also Sweet Potatoes. Read in Eve. I played solitaire.
