1926 June 5th Saturday

Bright, nice day. George & William listed in corn. Clausen & Will fixed hog-fence and Will went around cattle and in p.m. after he helped Glen McEachen & a boy start horses home. He and I went to Hidden Timber and in eve George, William & Ben went to the dance. Guy & Ray Bailey & Wm Smith stopped on way to the dance at Tom’s. I did only ordinary work and was so tired all day long.

1936 June 5th Friday

Partly cloudy and sprinkle of rain in a.m. and a real shower after supper. I got meals, friend the rest of the pork and ground the last into sausage and was so all in in evening I could barely move. Will and LeMoyne cased the sausage that Will ground at noon yesterday and he and Thomas reground it last eve and they took it to Ben’s this eve, hung it in his smoke-house and he will smoke it. Ben and Will went to Mission where Will put in his time for road-work and to Valentine where Ben bought his eli repairs and other necessities and Will couldn’t get any more casings so it is up to me to fry rest of the ground meat. Stanley Whiting came in eve and he will go to Winner to-morrow.

1946 June 5th Wednesday

Bright beautiful day. Will chored and Carl Wilkers brought a drill from Boarding School for Will to put in alfalfa so we went to Hank Haukaas’s, saw a tractor south of Oscar’s, so there first, but ti was George to O’Kreek. Hank at Winner so Will asked Herman about using Hank’s fanning mill, came back to Hank’s. Vivian was washing clothes on washboard and baking bread, they are to go to O’Kreek to a dance as Oliver Gunhammer is giving it, he leaves for Army to volunteer as re-enlisting for 3 years. Will and Henrietta fanned the alfalfa seed for Henrietta hauled water and even turned the wheel and is only to be six years old this fall. Johnny, her brother, 9 years old isn’t much on the work, then there is 4 yr. old Patsy and 16 mo. old Peter. We came to Abbotts. Delores and Cora Ann at home, so went down to Roy Dreys. He had been hauling manure, hurt his back so went to Dr. Jansen, Winner, to have it adjusted and Babe was home. Mr. & Mrs. Abbott there in wagon to get setting hens and he and Will will drill in alfalfa to-morrow. Yesterday  when Mr. Boyd and I and Johnny went to house in old garden, Narvin and Donna washed dishes.

1956 June 5th Tuesday

Primary Election. Bright, warm. Vere, Will and I to Hidden Timber to vote, then to Mission, to Valentine, a lot of repairs. Had dinner at Buttercup. Jerry & Barbara washed a lot of clothes and did a lot of work. Thomas, Athel, David, Jimmie, Doris, Bobbie, Patsy and Dannie Whiting came to Johnsons, had to go home in a hurry this eve when rain came. They brought freezer ice-cream.
