June 9

1926 June 9th Wednesday

Strong south wind and in eve clouded & rained some, was cool at times in the breeze. William listed in sudan on Moore’s and George listed in corn where they planted squaw-corn as it didn’t come up. Will & Ben worked on Ben’s fence and in p.m. helped Ed brand some horses that he & LeMoyne brought at noon. Rena, Kenneth, Seth, Leo, Edward, Charlotte & Helen came in p.m. Louise & Bess cleaned the rooms and mopped down-stairs. I cooked meat and canned some by cooking it in oven. Lots of cars stopped yesterday but none to-day.

1936 June 9th Tuesday

Some clouds in a.m. as it rained last night and a cool north breeze all day so kept the door shut and a fire in the range. Will did his chores and went to the store with a case of eggs and got the groceries, kalsomined some at our room (the ceiling) but ran out of white kalsomine so he got some at M. E. Smith’s in p.m. when he and LeMoyne went to Runningview or near there towards Vivian Bridge to find the Wm. Schulte cattle and they would spend the night 10 miles South of the bridge so Thomas, after taking the mares and Mike to the B. J. Wagner land, had the chores done. We ate supper, then Will and I to Legion Meeting at O’Kreek. I baked bread and got the meals, slept in p.m. Thomas and LeMoyne got the horses out of Big Pasture to Lundenmann pasture and brought some in to get mares way and after eating dinner, they took rest to Lundenmann pasture and Will got LeMoyne there.

1946 June 9th Sunday

My mother’s birthday, buried at Spencer, Nebraska. Not so warm until in p.m. sun shone bright, south wind dusty and strong. Will chored, took me to 8:30 a.m. Mass at St. Therese’s Chapel, Hidden Timber, and went to Whiting Store but Bud had key so did not get mail as Bud to Pasture. We stopped at Thomas Jr.’s and Athel said she was not going to church as she was caring for chickens. We got home to a fakish oil stove so I had to cook meat and eats on Range and it was warm. Furreys came before noon and Dorothy’s 14th Birthday Cake was good, 3 layers, 1 chocolate, 1 white, 1 red or Pink, and chocolate icing with white candles. I was glad she brought it for us to eat here. After they went home about 6:30 p.m. Will and I went to St. Francis to get Henry Arcoren, went out to his place and Lavern and Mary Wright were there but they left and Mrs. and Evangeline came to Rosebud to see her mother who is in bed with sprained ankle, they will stay and go back to St. Francis to-morrow. Pick-up bolted near St. Francis so had tired fixed at Keith Wise Station, Rosebud. Saw Mrs. Max Wise and she visited awhile. How to retire at 11 p.m.

1956 June 9th Saturday

Bright day so men worked at machinery and ready or about to mow alfalfa, just sickles to fix. I got eats, played solitaire and slept in p.m. Will had to rest some, too. Will looks at mills in Big Pasture and water O.K. Johnsons are home.
