1936 June 14th Sunday

Bright, nice until p.m. was quite warm. I got meals but breakfast was only for Will and I, for Thomas and LeMoyne came in on foot at daylight for they started home in the Whiting truck and it would not go so they left it on flat south of Jamison’s and when Will got me after Mass at 8:30 a.m., he took Thomas to the truck, he fixed it and took it home and stayed there until evening. LeMoyne went to game, Hidden Timber vs. Kibbee, at the store. Ben Clausen was here but he went home as he was fishing so Will and I went to game then around Highway to Wm Pierce’s where Will spoke for Allie Walton to help brand and vaccinate tomorrow.

1946 June 14th Friday

Flag Day. Cool last night, 50 above this morning, strong south to S.E. wind, sun shone and very hot in p.m., got to 90 above. I got breakfast and cooked Dried Prunes for there isn’t any milk and it is a meatless day, only lunch, for Will and Hank went to Lew McKee’s to brand calves, also Wm Van Epps went from home and Dean Peed helped so they castrated and branded 90 calves for McKee and Jessie Lewis. Had dinner and a Big lunch or supper. They went to Winner to get groceries, had front wheels greased on car. Brought 1 gal. ice-cream, we couldn’t eat all of the ice-cream. I played solitaire, wrote in diary and laid down in all the heat and took a nap in p.m.

1956 June 14th Thursday

Flat Day. Bright hot day and South wind strong, no rain. Will went to tell Athel we would go after noon, about 2 p.m., but we left 12:45 p.m. and she was ready. She went to Stanley’s and she and Pearl dressed 11 young fries for freezer this a.m. and she left David and Jimmie there to come with Pearl to swim this late p.m. at Bridge east of store. Gary and Stanley are helping Mike L. cut and stack alfalfa on shares. When we went by Lamoureux Corner, there were 4 men at alfalfa field getting ready to stack, and on return had 7 stacks finished and no one there. We went to Valentine. Got root beer at drive-in on south 20 east of Ainsworth, to Guy Harps and Mr. at Produce and Mrs. at Day and Nite Martens North 20 to East. Leona at home but she went with us to see her dad, then get John Deere repairs, a sledge hammer handle at Hardware Store. First in town, Will had his ear washed out at Hospital by Dr. Brady and got prescriptions at Whitney Drug Store on Main east side. Athel went to see her mother at Night & Day Cafe and Dinner where she is assistant cook, on from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. We took Leona home and got supper at cafe west side Main, on to 20 to Valentine then home before dark or about then. David and Jimmie at home with Thomas and choring. Leona Harp gave Athel some fresh strawberries she picked out of their patch. They have a nice home on a hill, with a garage and some grass on the north side of yard, west of road and garden in back yard. Mr. was home when we came back. He will come tomorrow to help with moving and stacking alfalfa.
